I can vividly remember going crabbing with my Dad as a boy. There was nothing like the refreshing feeling of the wind in my face as we whizzed across the water at full throttle! Anticipation was in the air; a big catch was on its way. Yep! The way things were lookin’, it was seafood we’d be cookin’.

Then suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere it came…the dreaded thunderstorm. What was once a serene scene of delight quickly became a desperate depiction of worry and hurry. Frantically, we gathered our nets, shifting our focus from catching crabs to seeking safely. Being familiar with the area, we plugged in to the safest inlet where we knew we could ride out the storm.       

Interestingly, what happens in the natural is often reflected in the spirit. Things can be going just fine—smooth sailing as far as the eye can see. Then suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere, a massive storm of adversity arises. What do you do? Where do you go to ride out the storm?

There is only one safe place to be in the storms of adversity and it’s plugged in to God through prayer. Prayer is powerful! Its effects are electrifying. God’s Word says in James 5:16 that ...the earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working].
